Beginning of manufacture for this Merrill Navy Saber Bayonet was in 1861 and end of manufacture was in 1865. The specimen below is dated 1861 on the ricasso of the blade and has serial number 6539 stamped on the grip. Blade is made of steel and is a ribbed grip made of cast brass. The bayonets secure and release rifle receiver spring works perfect. Has a fantastic aged brass patina.
