| Fully Restored Solid Flat Top Antique Trunk, Great for a Coffee Table or General Storage! New leather handles with new brass end caps. Sheet metal and heavy duty latches with built in lid lifts, heavy duty clamps, lid guides all with the beautiful natural dark brown oxidation. This 100+ year old cured pine body and oak wood slats have depth and character revealing a beautiful grain, and great patina that only aged antique wood can achieve. Exterior originally covered in canvas which was removed along with the interior paper lining, scrubbed with a bleach/water solution. The two coats of Spar Varnish were applied to all exterior and interior surfaces. Working lock and key! |

A nice solid well-built antique trunk which would be great for almost any use. Trunk was strengthened during the restoration by putting in a sheet of wood on the underside of the lid as well as using new contemporary hardware nuts and bolts to firmly secure the rear hinges. Perfect as a Navy Retirement or Promotion Gift and Used as a Shadow Box! |

The possible owners and travels that each steamer trunk has taken, along with the high level of detailed craftsmanship in the original production of each and every steamer trunk with that individualized character giving both intrinsic and non-intrinsic value. |
It was a common practice that loyal and productive craftsmen would be allowed to bring their children to work with them to learn a craft, so many of the children in this photograph were more than likely sons of the men shown. |
