The People's Liberation Army of the communist People's Republic of China is made up of the Army, Navy and Airforce branches; the abbreviation for the Chinese Navy is PLAN.

What is presented here is a VERY rare (1980???) enamel over metal (enamelware) drinking cup illustrating a fouled anchor under the Red Star representing the Naval arm of the PLAN.

Additionally, this cup belonged to the PLAN's East China Sea Flotilla or Fleet, Naval Craft Hull No. 034 being clearly visible: "No.034 Exploration and Reconnaissance Unit, East China Sea Fleet".

The Chinese Characters in the middle of the Red Star are translated to the date August 1st which is the anniversary of the Chinese Revolution, the equivalent of America's July 4th.
