Dinner Plate made for the Brotherhood of the Sea, a Sailor's Union! Part of the SIU Seafarer's International Union of the AFL-CIO





The Brotherhood of the Sea a Seafarer's Union. The SIU was the Seamen's International Union and was eventually part of the AFL-CIO.

The Seafarers International Union (SIU)was born in the hectic, strike-ridden days of the Great Depression, the worldwide economic slump of the 1930s.

The founders and many of the early members of the SIU came out of the International Seamen's Union, founded in 1892 as a federation of a number of seamen's unions on the four coasts of the United States (West Coast, East Coast, Great Lakes and Carribean).



The backstamp Jackson China S11 indicates that this plate was produced in November 1969.
