The New York Naval Militia NYNM, Currently Part of New York State's Ready Reserve and National Guard, Established 1891

Oval Serving Bowl, 10", White body with Double Blue Striping. Made by Maddocks American China ca 1900-1912 with impressed back stamp.

Nicely detailed topmark consisting of a fouled anchor, rope border and the initials NY. A very early example of dinnerware made exclusively for the New York Naval Militia.

Dinner Plate, 9", White body with Double Blue Striping, matches the above Serving Bowl. Made by Maddocks American China ca 1900-1912 with impressed back stamp.

Again, nicely detailed and handsome topmark consisting of a fouled anchor, rope border and the initials NY. Part of a matching dinnerware set along with the Serving Bowl. These two matching pieces indicate that a complete and full collection of dinnerware was made for the New York Naval Militia at about the turn of the century and prior to WWI.

Dinner Plate, White body. The NYNM does not appear as stylistic or as nice as the above Serving Bowl and Dinner Plate.

We have been told by CDR Don McKnight of the New York Naval Militia that he believes the Syracuse china dated 1931, with the numeral 15 on it refers to the 15th Fleet Division of the NYNM which is based in Oswego, NY. Oswego is located about 40 miles north of Syracuse. In the year 1931, that division was selected as the best unit in the state, and the china may have commemorated that fact.

This Dinner Plate was made by O.P.C.O. Syracuse China at their Fayette Street plant, with a below-the-glaze ink mark of L-11 indicating it was made in November, 1931.

Photo to the left shows the impressed backstamp (bottom mark) of Maddocks American China which dates the Serving Bowl and Dinner Plate with Blue Striping to ca 1900-1912

Photo to the right shows the ink-under-glaze backstamp (bottom mark) of O.P.C.O. Syracuse China L-11 which dates this Dinner Plate to November, 1931.

The coffee cup appears to be part of a matching set along with the above white dinner plate, and is backstamped OPCO Syracuse China with a date code of O5 indicating a May 1933 production date.

The above coffee mug was produced by Mayer China ca 1930's to 1940's and appears to be a matching set with the above serving bowl and dinner plate.
