This pitcher was found as part of a small naval collection of dinnerware with the pieces dated from the 1890s to early 1900s. This fantastic pitcher was certainly non-regulation and most likely a private purchase by some sailor used aboard ship in either an enlisted or most likely small officers mess. Two unique feature of this pitcher is the area on the top of the handle for the thumb which indicates that this was not just a display piece; and on the inside bottom is a triangular piece of fired and glazed clay which was used to help prevent liquid from splashing back up the side of the pitcher when being filled! | Sold! |
