The above Civil War US Navy Leather Fuse Pouch or Leather Primer Pouch is clearly arsenal stamped Navy Yard NY (for New York) and dated 1863. There are also 2 anchors stamped on either side of the date.
Note the intact leather belt loop and leather securing tab which gets put over the brass button.
| Very Good to Excellent Condition. Nothing missing or torn - intact belt loop and fastening tab ! Stamped on the front: "Navy Yard NY, 1863, with 2 Anchors". Carried by Naval Gunners whose job it was to insert the primer or fuse into the artillery shell just prior to firing. |
