This is a Heavy Duty and Significant Antique Trunk with Decorative Cast Iron Hardware and Trim Affixed to All Edges and Slats. Large Size ate 19th Century (1880s-1890s) All Wood Flat Top Antique Trunk Made by the Famous "C.A. Taylor Trunk Works" Which is Imprinted onto the Cast Iron Hardware. This Trunk has a Rich Dark Red Cherry Body and Red Oak Slats. All Contrasting Beautifully Against the Polished Silvery Heavy Duty Hardware Still Retaining Much of its Original Black Japanned Protective Coating. Heavy Cast Iron Edge Guards, Lid Guides, and Three Unique Heavy Duty Rear Hinges. Dual Nail Strip Across the Body. Original End Caps with Built-in Lid Guides and New Leather Handles. It was a common practice that loyal and productive craftsmen would be allowed to bring their children to work with them to learn a craft, so many of the children in this photograph were more than likely sons of the men shown. |
