Mid Size Late 19th Century (1870s-1880s) All Wood Roll Top Antique Trunk with a Rich Even Natual Pine Wood Finish to the Body and Red Oak Slats. The Hardware has been Polished but still Retains Much of the Original Black Japanning. There are Two Nail Strips Across the Body Giving it Added Character and Strength. New End Caps with New Leather Handles. Also Has Edge Guards, Lid Lift, Polished Nail Heads, and 3 Unique Heavy Duty Rear Hinges. Working Lock and Key! |

The possible owners and travels that each steamer trunk has taken, along with the high level of detailed craftsmanship in the original production of each and every steamer trunk with that individualized character giving both intrinsic and non-intrinsic value. |
It was a common practice that loyal and productive craftsmen would be allowed to bring their children to work with them to learn a craft, so many of the children in this photograph were more than likely sons of the men shown. |
