This 1 Pint Measure is just one of eight measures from a large 1 Gallon down to the Smaller 1/2 gill (approx 2.5 oz). Traditionally because of heritage and lineage the US Navy imitated and mirror imaged much of both equipment and traditions as found in the British Navy. As such the American Navy also had "Measures" in blue speckled graniteware but only five, from the largest 1 Gallon to 1 gill unit measure. The US Navy equivalent "Measures" can be found by By Clicking Here - US Navy Measures.

Note that this British 1 Pint Measure is clearly marked with a stamped Royal Crown over VR6 indicating that it was made and used by the British Royal Navy during the reign of Queen Victoria, 1837-1901. This time period of her reign was also known as the Victorian Era of both elegance and global change.

Photo to the Left. Note the Royal Crown and VR above the number 6 which signifies that the cup was made for the British Royal Government under Queen Victoria's rule (VR=Victoria Regia) and Royal Inspector #6 performed the proofing at Birmingham, England.

Photo to the Right. Note the Broad Arrow which signifies it was proofed ready for naval service, and the 1 Pt is ofcourse signifying 1 Pint measure. If this Naval Rum Cup was taken out of service due to damage another Broad Arrow mark would have been stamped point-to-point with the first Arrow. This is true for all late 18th, 19th and early 20th Century British Royal Navy Gear.

Also of note is that there are no bottom marks, arsenal or manufacturer. We have been told by an expert in the field that bottom marks and manufacturing stamps can be found on post-Victoria rum or grog measures.
