A post-1907 British Navy Mess Bowl produced by Minton (a famous porcelain and china producer for over 200 years) and used in the General or Centralized Mess aboard ship (post "berthing" mess period) for British sailors or ratings as it only has the British Royal Navy's Fouled Anchor as an insignia vs. a designated Mess No.

| A Mess Bowl produced by Mintons of England and used in the Royal Navy's just implemented General or Centralized Mess aboard ship (post "berthing" mess period) for British sailors or ratings ca 1907 as the bowl only has the British Royal Navy's Fouled Anchor as an insignia vs. a designated Mess No. This simple fouled anchor insiginia was inaugurated on/about 1905 and discontinued and stopped being issued by the Royal Navy in 1926. Additionally, Minton the manufacturer of this piece used the shown backstamp between 1873 to 1912 which greatly helps to date this bowl. This marine salvaged Mess Bowl though intact has significant crazing and marine staining from being immersed in salt water for a 100 years or more. Note that this soup bowl is a companion piece to a deep mess bowl also shown and part of the collection here at The Pirates Lair. |
