| Pressed tin filigree in a dark crimson floral design and wood antique trunk with handcrafted lift out tray finished in a chestnut brown. Part of the original tin covering with red and white color scheme was found under the front lock and is left. This trunk was restored decades ago and we refreshed the inside with American Chestnut miniwax after thoroughly scrubbing it with a bleach/water solution. All outside hardware was steel wooled, mahogany red stain was applied to the tin filigree, black tin finish was refreshed and 3 coats of spar varnished applied to both exterior and interior surfaces. New leather handles and caps, working lock and key!! |

We all romanticize about the mystique of these antique trunks. The possible owners and travels that each steamer trunk has taken, along with the high level of detailed craftsmanship in the original production of each and every steamer trunk with that individualized character giving both intrinsic and non-intrinsic value. |
It was a common practice that loyal and productive craftsmen would be allowed to bring their children to work with them to learn a craft, so many of the children in this photograph were more than likely sons of the men shown. |
