Fantastic All Wood Flat Top "Theatrical" Trunk with wall spacesaver features! These model trunks were typically used by travelling theater groups and circus, and pioneer families settling the west in their prairie schooners, covered wagons or Conestogas! The exterior was originally covered in painted green canvas and the interior with a fabric which were both removed to reveal the beautiful 100+ year old cured pine wood. The entire trunk was then scubbed, dried, and lightly sanded with two coats of spar varnish applied. New leather handles and end caps replaced the older worn out ones. This trunk has the original 3 pull out drawers, 4 heavy duty side and front latches, wall spacesaver feature, working lock but no key. |

We all romanticize about the mystique of these antique trunks. The possible owners and travels that each steamer trunk has taken, along with the high level of detailed craftsmanship in the original production of each and every steamer trunk with that individualized character giving both intrinsic and non-intrinsic value. |
It was a common practice that loyal and productive craftsmen would be allowed to bring their children to work with them to learn a craft, so many of the children in this photograph were more than likely sons of the men shown. |
