35"L x 22"D x 25"H (closed) 46"H (open) A heavy and substantial trunk originally made to be transported on the back of a wagon with daily use! NOTE: Theatrical Trunks are rare and were used by actors and actresses performing on travelling carnivals and honky tonk shows to hold their costumes, makeup, wigs, mirrors, etc etc as these trunks could easily fit into a wagon and be turned into a dresser of sorts. These theatrical trunks were also by pioneers settling the west as when they reached their destination the trunk would just turn into a dresser and when opened would not take up much space as they were designed to be "wall savers"! Perfect gift for an actor, actress, singer, dancer or someone in the theatrical arts! |

We all romanticize about the mystique of these antique trunks. The possible owners and travels that each steamer trunk has taken, along with the high level of detailed craftsmanship in the original production of each and every steamer trunk with that individualized character giving both intrinsic and non-intrinsic value. |
It was a common practice that loyal and productive craftsmen would be allowed to bring their children to work with them to learn a craft, so many of the children in this photograph were more than likely sons of the men shown. |
