Note the two restored Antique Steamer Trunk (both are Dome Top, Humb Back or Camel Back models) to the left with each being 100 to 150 years old.

Many of these antique trunks and steamer chests have dates on the ornate hardware and locks which help to identify when they were made.

Every antique steamer trunk offered has been painstakingly restored so as to be used today in contemporary and unique ways such as a filing cabinet which can hold up to 200 hanging file folders, staplers, tape dispenserss, pens, and other office items normally found on a typical desk.

We all romanticize about the mystique of these antique trunks. The possible owners and travels that each steamer trunk has taken, along with the high level of detailed craftsmanship in the original production of each and every steamer trunk with that individualized character giving both intrinsic and non-intrinsic value.

However the truth of the matter is that the majority of these steamer trunks were made towards the middle to end of the 19th century just at the dawning of the industrial revolution here in America when there were no child labor laws or protections. This rare photo clearly illustrates at least 3 generations of owners and workers, ages appearing to range from pre-teen/adolescent, teens/early adult, through middle to old age!
It was a common practice that loyal and productive craftsmen would be allowed to bring their children to work with them to learn a craft, so many of the children in this photograph were more than likely sons of the men shown.

Note the adolescent factory workers on top row! Note that there are no women in the photo! This is due to the fact that at that time "proper" women did not work outside of the home, certainly not in a factory. Everybody appears to look pretty stern, having on their arms crossed and "work" faces put on.

Here we have two 6' Wooden Hatch Cover "Nautical Coffee Tables" from re-stored WW2 Liberty Ship Cargo Hold Hatch Covers - a great nautical gift for that special sailor - heavy, naturally distressed wood grain from years of sea service! These nautical tables are rough, tough, with lots of character! They withstood many years at sea in the roughest of weather. There is nothing "gentle" about a 60 year old WW2 Hatch Cover! They are much like our beloved U.S. Navy seaman.

Each of these WW2 Victory Ship and Liberty Ship Hatch Covers are made of thick pine planks measuring 60"L x 29"W x 2.5"D weighing in at 80lbs before re-fitting them with a trestle. Each Hatch Cover is the same in design, yet unique and individualistic in character based upon the years it saw at sea, not too unlike a true sailor!

Note the beautiful grain of the wood and how the recessed handle is fitted over the scooped-out part of the plank. Perfect for spare change, stamps or other small items.

Above in detail is an all wood Nautical Domed Steamer Chest with the lid open showing how the chest was refinished so as to hang file folders and store office desk accessories. Here we have the rarest of the rare! A 10' long banquet size Nautical Dining Room "Hatch Cover Table" easily seating 12, is a beautifully re-finished WW2 Wooden Hatch Cover Table from the cargo hold a US Navy WW2 Merchant Marine Liberty Ship.

Weighing in at over 1200lbs this hatch cover was meticulously re-stored by a Master Carpenter and Wood Craftsman in New Jersey in the early 1970's from a WW2 Liberty Ship which was part of the "Mothball Fleet" located on the Hudson River.

The fine craftsmanship and attention to detail of this nautical table can be seen by the nautical twisted hemp rope inlaid along the outer edges.

Complementary handcrafted Amish Mission Chairs of the finest quality oak wood can also be provided to closely match your refinished Nautical Home Furnishing.
