Above is a collection of American Revolution-era spontoons carried by infantry, lances carried by cavalry, trench pikes used in defensive positions, and artillery defense pole arms against charging cavalry.
Offered here is a crudely fashioned and simple 8" long spike crudely hand forged spike head typically used in trench defense against charging infantry and cavalry. It has a hand-forged rolled-over socket for placement onto a wooden pike, pole or spear. Simple yet effective design. Similar examples are found in "The Collector's Encyclopedia of the Revolutionary War" and "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution" reference guides. An imposing piece of military weaponry of the period.
This certainly would have been used by American land forces. This is NOT a naval boarding pike head.
| Crudely yet effective trench spike! Excavated in/around Northern NJ. Hand forged hand-forged rolled-over socket for placement onto a pike, pole or spear, with a center ring. Unmarked and certainly used by American infantry as part of trench defense., |
